In a quiet suburban street on the outskirts of the town sits an impressive memorial stone. This bears witness to the grim fact that from that spot in 1942 the last Jewish townsfolk were deported to concentration camps.

The town holds a ceremony there every 9th of November. This was the time in 1938 when Hitler launched a fierce onslaught against the Jews. We remember it as Kristallnacht. The Germans themselves refer to it as Reichspogromnacht.

Reinhart Bersch as representative of the council of elders and one of those involved in the organisation of the commemoration ceremony gave a short speech and reading. He then laid some flowers.

The purpose of ceremony is to remind people that these things should never happen again.
